The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 recently held an orientation on DOLE’s Department Order No. 13 otherwise known as the Guidelines Governing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the Construction Industry for representatives of various establishments in Aklan during the conduct of Industry Forum, in partnership with Aklan Provincial Government and Aklan Industry Tripartite Council.
DO No. 13 was included in the forum’s agenda so as to remind the construction industry stakeholders of their responsibilities on OSH under the said Order.
Around 51 entities including six construction companies in that province attended the forum.
“This orientation is part of DOLE’s campaign to ensure that accidents are avoided and prevented in all construction sites in the provinces,” said DOLE Region 6 Director Salome O. Siaton.
Siaton disclosed that DOLE Region 6 continuously conducts safety and health trainings and orientations to companies and safety practitioners in the provinces as part of this campaign.
She thus encouraged the industry stakeholders to voluntarily comply with construction regulations such as the submission of Construction Safety and Health Program (CSHP) to the DOLE for its approval before the start of construction. OSH requirements are stipulated in the CSHP such as the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the minimum requirement of First Aid Kit, among others.
The forum was attended by local business establishments, POEA Licensed Overseas Recruitment Agencies, national and local government agencies and members of the Provincial Industry Tripartite Council and Boracay Industry Tripartite Councils.
